Judge Duffey has a variety of interests to balance out his devotion to his work and writing. Whether fitness, artistic or practical, his outside interests are an integral part of his life.
Cycling
Whether a multi-mile sprint along the lakes in north Georgia or 60 miles and 5,000 feet of climbing on the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina, Judge Duffey is a road bike enthusiast. Cycling is a passion whether he rides alone, with his son, or close cycling friends. This year he will again ride over 3,000 outdoor miles, climb over 225,000 feet and log hundreds of miles on his smart trainer.
White-line Wood Prints
A few years ago, Judge Duffey met a wood print artist in Booth Bay Harbor, Maine. He was immediately drawn to this art form which involves removing material from a wood surface to outline the elements of an image and then transferring watercolor paint from the wood to a piece of watercolor paper. Creating images of places that inspired him, like this of mustard along the Sea of Galilee, is a calming pastime.
Culinary Arts
Fine food preparation is a practical art. Raised by a mother who was a great cook and a father who trained as a butcher, Judge Duffey learned to savor food prepared well. Better yet, prepare it for family or as a gift for a community of friends. New American and rustic Italian cuisine, with an occasional Big Green Egg slow-cooked, smoked brisket, are Judge Duffey's favorite cuisines.
